The Security Service of Ukraine exposed a resident of Kyiv region who wanted to send ancient artifacts of artistic, ethnographic, scientific and historical significance to the United States.

It is about six ancient coins of the Arab Caliphate from the period of the VIII-X centuries and eight payment ingots that were used on the territory of Ukraine during the VIII-XII centuries, are reported in the Kyiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

In a comment for “UP. Life”, the spokeswoman of the Kyiv regional prosecutor’s office, Olena Kovalyova, said that the suspect was detained in one of the post offices. Before sending the parcel, the man carefully disguised valuable items.

“He put them in separate bags and then in cardboard boxes. He tried to send them under the guise of decorative souvenirs.” – said Olena Kovalyova.

The spokeswoman also noted that it is not known where the man took the coins and bars and why he was sending them to America. Law enforcement officers searched his apartment and found no other artifacts.

The prosecutor’s office confiscated all seized valuables as physical evidence. They will be stored there until the end of the criminal proceedings, and then the court will decide what to do with them. Perhaps the artifacts will be transferred to one of the museums.

A preventive measure has not yet been chosen for the suspect. A pre-trial investigation is currently underway.

If the man’s guilt is proven in court, he faces the penalty stipulated in part 1 of Article 201 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – from three to seven years of imprisonment, according to the Kyiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

We used to toldthat Kyiv customs officers discovered a hundred archaeological artifacts in the mail.
