President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked the creators of the tape “20 days in Mariupol”, which became the winner “Oscar-2024” award in the nomination “Best full-length documentary”.

He called the award “which makes it possible to speak loudly about the Russian war against Ukraine.”

“We remember and will never forget every day of this war, every day of Mariupol, its defenders. We remember everyone who fought for the city. We remember and must release from Russian captivity all the defenders of Mariupol and Azovstal, who still kept in inhumane conditions”, – remarked the president.

In addition, in his post he mentioned journalists from all over the world who cover the truth about the Ukrainian struggle.

“I thank everyone who spreads the truth about this war, about the bravery of our people and about the pain of our people. The truth overcomes everything. And I thank everyone in the world who has supported our state, our people since the first days of this war. Together we have protect life” – emphasized Zelensky.

The authors of the film “20 days in Mariupol” are director Mstislav Chernov, photographer Yevhen Maloletka and producer Vasylisa Stepanenko. At the beginning of a full-scale invasion, they remained in Mariupol and recorded the beginning of the destruction of the city.

Tape became the highest grosser documentary film in Ukraine. It collected 500 thousand hryvnias for the first weekend at the box office.

We will remind, in January 2024 the film “20 days in Mariupol” acquired BAFTA award.
