Disney researcher Lenny Smoot has been inducted into the US National Inventors Hall of Fame.
The famous inventor, engineer, scientist, designer and longtime member of the Disney team became the first Disney designer to receive this prestigious recognition. So far, only Walt Disney himself has been inducted from The Walt Disney Company into the US National Inventors Hall of Fame, according to the company’s official website.
“I am honored and proud to have my name inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame. However, I am embarrassed to realize that I am only the second person at The Walt Disney Company to be so honored, the first being Walt himself Disney” – says Lenny Smooth.
Throughout his career, he worked as a theater technology developer, inventor, electrical engineer, scientist and researcher. His work resulted in more than 100 patents, a rare achievement that makes Smoot one of the most prolific black inventors in American history.
During his tenure, Smoot won many awards and honors, including three Thea Awards from the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA) for his work on attractions: Finding Nemo: A Submarine Voyage, Who Can: A World Showcase of Adventure, The Mail of ghosts”.
