In Lviv, a girl while riding an electric scooter drove into a hole and fell on the cobblestones. Doctors diagnosed her with a fracture of both bones of her left forearm. This was reported in a comment for “UP.Zhyttya” at St. Luke’s Hospital. Anastasia notes that together with her boyfriend she rode around the city on an electric scooter in the evening. “We picked up speed, drove along the sidewalk and came across a pothole,” she recalls. She went to the hospital’s trauma center, where doctors examined her, took an X-ray, and diagnosed a complex fracture of the left forearm. Traumatologists first removed the gross dislocation and casted the arm. A little later, during the operation, the surgeons compared the bone fragments and fixed them with the help of a metal structure. “For fractures of the ulna and radius, this must be done with jewel-like precision. Otherwise, even with a small error, in later life, bending and turning movements can be accompanied by chronic pain,” the hospital explained. Nastya was discharged after 4 days: now a long rehabilitation awaits her. Orthopedist-traumatologist Yaryna Machichka said that most often patients after falling from a scooter come with fractures of the lower and upper limbs, craniocerebral injuries, bruises, lacerations and bruises. “With fractures of the lower extremities, patients most often require surgical treatment and long-term rehabilitation. Patients become unable to work for a certain period of time,” she says. The doctor adds that you should not forget about a helmet while skiing, because it can protect against a craniocerebral injury. Her symptoms: nausea; vomiting; dizziness; pain in the area of injury; disorientation in space, etc. If symptoms appear, you should immediately consult a doctor. “Patients usually get head injuries not from a fall, but during a road accident involving a scooter. Such patients are often immediately taken to the intensive care unit,” says Yaryna Machichka. We will remind, in 2022, scooterists were recognized as full participants in road traffic.
