Does a child born abroad get Ukrainian citizenship? The ombudsman explains
[ad_1]
A child born abroad receives Ukrainian citizenship if one of the parents is Ukrainian.
This was reported in the Office of the Ombudsman.
“If the parents or one of the parents are citizens of Ukraine at the time of the child’s birth, the child automatically receives Ukrainian citizenship, regardless of the place of birth.
State registration of acts of civil status of Ukrainians abroad is carried out by diplomatic missions and consular institutions of Ukraine. – noted in the department.

The list of necessary documents for obtaining a child’s birth certificate is listed on the official websites of diplomatic missions.
The standard package of documents includes:
– a document from the hospital about the birth of the child or a certificate from a doctor who performed childbirth outside the maternity hospital;
– passports of both or one of the parents. If one of the parents does not have documents, information about him will be determined on the basis of the marriage certificate;
– marriage certificate, declaration of paternity by mother/father or joint declaration of parents who are not spouses.
The ombudsman’s office notes: if there are other documents (for example, a death certificate of one of the parents, a court decision declaring the father missing, etc.), they must also be added to the package of documents.
At the same time, diplomatic branches do not have access to the State Enterprise “Dokument”, therefore it is impossible to register a child born abroad in Ukraine.
A foreign passport for an infant can be issued both at foreign diplomatic institutions of Ukraine and at the Dokument State Enterprise.
We will remind you that earlier in the Ombudsman’s Office they explained how Ukrainians abroad could obtain the right to inherit.
