Guinness World Records will investigate the longevity of Bobi, a dog from Portugal who recently died aged what was believed to be 31 years and 165 days.
Veterinarians had doubts whether the dog really lived to an age comparable to 200 years by human standards, reports The Guardian.
The debate over Bobi’s age was fueled by discussion of a 1999 photo of Bobi. Netizens noticed that the dog in the photo seems to have paws of a different color than the dog that died in Portugal on October 21.
Veterinarians had other doubts. Bobbie’s age was indeed recorded in the National Pet Database, but age information is usually entered into the database based on the owner’s testimony.
And the genetic examination that the dog underwent only confirmed that he was old, but did not establish his exact age.

“None of my vet colleagues believe that Bobby was actually 31 years old. That’s the equivalent of a human being living to be 200 years old, which, given our current medical capabilities, is completely implausible.
“Extraordinary claims require evidence, and no concrete evidence to support his age has been provided.” veterinarian and head of the Veterinary Voices group Danny Chambers told reporters.
A Guinness World Records representative later told The Guardian: “We are aware of the questions about Boba’s age and are looking into them.”
Danny Chambers also added that Bob’s example has been picked up by anti-pet food campaigners who claim that dog food is “killing” pets and that eating raw is healthier.
Earlier, Bobi’s owner said that Bobi probably lives so long because of love, free life in nature without chains, as well as “human food”, only without salt and spices.
