Yana Kovalyova, 45, is a librarian from the front-line town of Avdiyivka, Donetsk region, which the Russian army is trying to capture.

The woman rejected thoughts of evacuation until the last, but everything changed when Yana was seriously injured, the story of a patient at the Nezlamna National Rehabilitation Center is told.

Yana lived her entire conscious life in Avdiivka, worked in the local library.

However, even after that, the woman still remained in the city.

“She didn’t leave him then, and a year later, when the enemy threw all their forces into the capture of Avdiyivka.” – they say in the rebcenter.

On the morning of October 21, Yana went out into the yard, until suddenly the silence was interrupted by a powerful explosion.

“I was turned around by the blast wave. I felt that my leg was burning and when I looked down, I saw that my leg was crushed.” Yana recalls.

Neighbors took the seriously injured librarian to the hospital in Pokrovsk.

According to doctors, the limb could not be saved, it was amputated.

“Before Lviv, I didn’t get out of bed. At first I was afraid to trip even on crutches – not the same as walking up the stairs. But with each class I feel more and more confident,” says Yana

“I couldn’t come to terms with the ‘before’ and ‘after’ that I will now live with for the rest of my life.” – the woman remembers her first emotions when she saw that her right leg was gone.

When Yana’s condition was stabilized, she was evacuated to Lviv, where she began a rehabilitation course.

According to the woman, she is most motivated by wounded military personnel who are also being treated at the rehabilitation center.

Currently, the librarian is waiting for the stump to heal completely in order to proceed to the next stage – prosthetics.

Currently, Yana wants to get on an artificial limb and master it so well that she will be able to get on a bicycle again, because she cannot imagine herself without riding this vehicle

Yana dreams of returning to her hometown and working there as a librarian, but first she wants to stand on an artificial limb and master it enough to be able to ride a bicycle.
