Education Minister Lisovyi wants to update the methods of teaching Ukrainian history and literature

The Minister of Education and Science, Oksen Lisovyi, said that children studying in Ukrainian and foreign schools at the same time should be credited with academic results in universal subjects. For example, a Ukrainian school can credit them with natural and mathematical subjects studied abroad, but keep and separately evaluate unique subjects: Ukrainian history, language and literature. According to Lisovoy, it is necessary to reload the content and form of teaching of these disciplines, because Ukrainian methods differ from the leading world ones. The minister told how he wants to “reboot” the teaching of humanitarian disciplines in an interview with “Media Osvitoria”. “First of all, we need to revise the content of the Ukrainian literature course: to modernize it, to bring back “lost” names, starting with Renaissance-baroque literary works and ending with modern living writers. Literature is an opportunity to reflect, analyze the actions of heroes, unpack the fantastic world of books and to develop imagination. Reading a book, a child creates worlds, he is a creator, not a consumer,” said Oksen. In his opinion, it is necessary to modernize teaching methods. We are a country that preserved its territory, language, and culture surrounded by empires. Many nations did not survive in such an environment. In our history, every 30-50 years we have uprisings, riots and terror as a response. Despite this, we survived. The school history course should show modern children the success of Ukraine, so that every graduate feels their own genetically embedded capacity for stability and success,” the educator believes. The minister added that tools for re-enrollment of disciplines are currently being developed. Earlier, he called to reduce the burden on Ukrainian students abroad by giving them credit for some “European” disciplines.
