After the explosion of the Kakhovskaya HPP, it was planned to be evacuated, but then the evacuation was canceled. “The lower street has already flooded, there are two more streets to our institution and we hope that the water will not reach,” said the director of the Kherson Cancer Center, Iryna Sokur. Iryna Sokur noted that the institution is ready for emergency situations. “We have electricity, water as well. Cans of drinking water and one and a half tons of technical water. We also have a water purification station, diesel generators and fuel, stocks of food and medicine. When there were shellings, the equipment was taken down to the first floor, and now in case of needs will be transferred to the last one,” she says. The director said that due to the destruction of the Kakhovskaya HPP, some employees of the medical facility lost their homes. The Kherson Cancer Clinic also said that until June 6, 2023, the shelling of the city did not subside. It also flew into the hospital building, as a result of which 46 windows were broken, the facade was destroyed and a powerful generator was damaged. It was not without human losses. On May 3, Oleksandr Morgunov, the head of the gynecology department, died when he went to buy bread after work. Gynecologist Nina Mohyla was injured and contused. According to Iryna Sokur, the institution has many problems with medical personnel: many doctors left during the occupation and after the liberation of the city, when the Russians began shelling Kherson.
