Exotic animals in cramped cages: the police filed a report against the organizers of the exhibition in Ternopil

In Ternopil, the organizers of the “Underwater World” exhibition, which took place in the shopping and entertainment center “Podolyani”, were issued a protocol for improper keeping of animals.

“UP. Life” was informed about this by the Main Department of the National Police of the Ternopil region.

Earlier, the animal welfare organization UAnimals reported the violation.

They received numerous complaints from citizens about the exhibition. After that, volunteer Lyudmila Chekhovska visited her.

In addition to fish, the exhibit featured wild and exotic animals housed in confined spaces.

“Visitors take pictures with the snakes and the monkey using flash. The monkey is sitting in a tight cage and has no way to hide from it.” – animal rights activists described the events at the exhibition.

The organization claims that the organizers of the exhibition violated:

  • Part 5 of Article 25 of the Law “On the Protection of Animals from Cruel Treatment”, which prohibits the use of animals for traveling exhibitions;
  • Part 12 of Article 25 of the Law “On the Protection of Animals from Cruelty Treatment”, which prohibits providing photo services with wild animals, except for zoos, circuses and dolphinariums;
  • ban of the Ternopil City Council on mobile circuses and other mobile entertainment involving wild and exotic animals on the territory of the city.

“Lyudmyla Chekhovska called the police to the shopping center, but the police refused to draw up a report on the spot, arguing that it was necessary to first carry out examinations and establish whether there really was a violation.

Lyudmila’s application was accepted. When the girl complained to the hotline due to an incomplete protocol, she was promised that on Saturday, October 14, the police would return to the shopping center and check the conditions of keeping the animals. – noted in UAnimals.

Serhiy Kreta, the spokesman of the police of Ternopil region, in a comment for “UP. Life” on October 15, said that the law enforcement officers allegedly did not know that such an exhibition was planned in the city.

“We found out when people started to complain. They wanted to draw up a report on them on Saturday (October 14 – ed.), but there were no organizers on the spot. And it is drawn up only for a specific person. Today, the police returned there and found the organizers.” – the spokesman comments on the situation.

According to Kret, a protocol was drawn up on them under Article 154 of the Code of Administrative Offenses.

It provides for:

  • warning;
  • imposition of a fine on citizens from one to three tax-free minimum incomes of citizens and a warning.

As the police spokesman notes, the exhibition has already ended and tomorrow the organizers are going to another city.

We will remind you that earlier we wrote that the Odessa dolphinarium “Nemo” got into a scandal due to photo sessions with animals in hotel rooms.
