In the USA, a woman tried to transport giraffe feces from Kenya. Customs officials seized unusual luggage due to the threat of infection.

This was reported by the Associated Press with reference to Minnesota Public Radio.

A resident of the state of Iowa was transporting excrement in a box. She was going to make a necklace out of them.

“At home, she makes jewelry out of feces. So she just saw something that could be an interesting addition to her hobby. Unfortunately, it’s these innocuous imports that can sometimes have the biggest impact.” – says Lauren Lewis, head of the agriculture division of the US Customs and Border Protection in Minneapolis.

Such an act can be a serious health hazard.

“If this person had entered the United States and not declared these items, there is a strong possibility that they could have contracted a disease from this jewelry and had serious health problems.” says Director of Chicago Customs and Border Protection LaFonda D. Sutton-Burke.

In particular, there is a threat of African swine fever, classical swine fever, Newcastle disease, foot-and-mouth disease and swine vesicular disease being introduced from Kenya.

Specialists removed and destroyed the giraffe’s feces.

Since the woman reported the box of excrement and gave it up without any problems, she is not in any danger. If she tried to transport it secretly, she would have to pay a fine of $300 to $1,000.
