An American tourist who threw ancient statues on the floor was arrested in Jerusalem. As a result, they crashed.

Based on the results of the initial interrogation, the law enforcement officers assume that the tourist broke the statues because he considers them “idolatrous and contrary to the Torah.”
However, the man’s lawyer denies this. He emphasizes that the tourist has a mental disorder – Jerusalem syndrome.
Jerusalem syndrome is a delusional state caused by the religious magnetism of the city. Tourists begin to believe that they are religious figures. The syndrome can occur in representatives of different religions.
The detainee will undergo a psychiatric examination.
The Israel Museum reported that a tourist smashed a statue of a pagan deity into pieces and knocked off the head of a statue of Athena. They intend to restore them.

“This case of destruction of cultural values is shocking. We observe with concern the fact that cultural values are being destroyed by religiously motivated extremists.” Eli Escusido, director of the Israel Antiquities Authority, commented on the event.
