Get an innovative high-quality prosthesis and save money. How is that possible?

Optimistic news from the front has a great price – the health of our defenders. Many of them lost limbs. After mass shelling of cities, there are many civilians, including children, without arms or legs. It is difficult to talk about it, but there is no need to be silent. According to WHO, 0.5% of people in the world need prosthetics or orthotics today. In 2050, this share will reach 1%, that is, it will double. In Ukraine, according to preliminary estimates by experts, more than 10,000 people will be killed as a result of Russian aggression. Often after injury, amputation and hospital, the patient ends up at home without further support and rehabilitation. Relatives are confused and do not know where to turn. The “Soviet syndrome” still applies to many people who have received a disability – to hide the problem. It is absolutely not worth doing this today. I will explain in more detail. First, the cost of prostheses is reimbursed by the state. Ukraine is a party to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. This means that we are committed to building our policies so that vulnerable groups have access to all the help they need. And prosthetics is the most important part of this assistance. The issue of state funding is dealt with by the Ministry of Social Policy and its local units. If the necessary procedure cannot be carried out in state institutions, there is an option of treatment abroad. The cost is calculated individually, because it depends on the patient’s health indicators. Usually, a prosthesis, the installation of which can be compensated by the state, performs the minimum necessary functions. There are patients for whose lifestyle this prosthesis is quite sufficient. Everything is very individual. Modern prostheses do not just compensate for a lost limb, but with the help of technology can perform more complex functions, add superpowers. Both factors largely depend on the territorial availability of prosthetics. And here there is an important layer of problems – most innovative factories and clinics are located abroad. Traveling for medical procedures in another country, such as Germany, Israel, or the USA, involves long preparation, a long procedure time, and significant costs for related expenses, such as travel, accommodation, and food, even with free prosthetics. Also, patients receive additional stress, overcome language and cultural barriers, have to register the right to leave for themselves and accompanying persons, and go through extended bureaucratic procedures. This way exhausts the person, significantly increases the cost of prosthetics and sometimes makes further maintenance of the prosthesis and assistance to the patient impossible. In the interval between the examination and the manufacture of the prosthesis, the patient may lose weight or gain weight – then the procedure must be carried out again. Children, for example, need to make a new prosthesis regularly while they grow. That is why very often those who go for medical help abroad, after a certain time after returning home, simply remove the prosthesis and never use it again. That is why Superhumans.center will fully open in Lviv in April. The medical team is already working with those who cannot wait. Moreover, we have already provided prosthetics to our first patients. We make, one might say, a “single window”. Thanks to our partners and donors, the center will provide free prosthetics, rehabilitation, both physical and psychological, work with PTSD. In addition, a laboratory for the production of modern prostheses will work on the territory, and we already have contracts with the best companies in this area, such as, for example, the British OpenBionics and the German Ottobock. It is very easy to get in line – we have placed a questionnaire on the website. It can be filled out online from any corner of Ukraine, which greatly simplifies the preparation stage for the patient. Every civilian or military person who suffered from the war in Ukraine and needs the help of specialists can go to rehabilitation.
