32-year-old American Gypsy Rose Blanchard, who asked an online boyfriend to kill her mother after years of medical abuse, has been released from prison.

Blanchard was released on parole because she had already served 85% of her initial prison term, having served 7 years out of 10, the Associated Press reports.

In a comment to People magazine, the girl said: “No one will ever hear that I’m glad she died, or that I’m proud of what I did. I regret it every day.”.

The girl was abused as a child by her mother, Claudine “Dee-Dee” Blanchard, who suffered from delegated Munchausen syndrome, a mental disorder in which parents or guardians exaggerate or make up their children’s illnesses to gain attention and sympathy.

“Dee-Dee” forced her daughter to use a wheelchair and a feeding tube, pretending that she was suffering from leukemia, muscular dystrophy and other serious diseases.

Gypsy Rose Blanchard was born on July 27, 1991 in Louisiana, when her father, Rod, was 17, and her mother, Claudine, was 24. In the same year, the girl’s parents divorced. After that, Claudine prevented Gypsy from communicating with her father in every possible way.

According to the girl’s father, his ex-wife started “searching” for diseases in the child when she was three months old. At the age of 7-8, Claudine was already forcing her daughter to move with the help of a wheelchair.

For years, Claudine Blanchard collected donations from benefactors, accepted gifts (for example, a house in Missouri), took her daughter for treatment abroad.

Among the diagnoses that Claudine attributed to her daughter were leukemia, asthma, visual and hearing impairment, muscular dystrophy, convulsions and mental retardation.

The woman belittled the child’s real age, fed her medicines, pulled out her teeth, cut her hair and performed medical interventions that her daughter did not really need.

Among the unnecessary procedures that Gypsy Blanchard underwent were removal of salivary glands.

It turned out that Gypsy Blanchard was completely healthy and had no developmental delay. But the woman gave the healthy child medicine that really caused complications.

For a long time Gypsy herself believed in her disability. At the same time, her mother did not allow her to talk during visits to the doctor.

Claudine assured doctors that her daughter’s medical records were lost during Hurricane Katrina. If they asked too many questions, she found a new doctor.

Gypsy also talked about her mother’s excessive control. The girl never went to school, she was not allowed to communicate with her father, stepmother, half-brothers and sisters, and communication with her peers was very limited.

As a teenager, Gypsy tried to run away, but she says that after one such attempt, her mother tied her to her bed for several weeks.

In 2015, Gypsy planned to kill her mother with her online boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, with whom she secretly corresponded on the Internet.

The girl opened the door for Nick while Claudine was sleeping, and he stabbed her to death. The couple took money from the house and fled by bus. Police arrested them the next day in Wisconsin, where Godejohn lived.

Gypsy pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. She was sentenced to 10 years in prison, and Nicholas Godejohn was sentenced to life in prison without parole.

“I wanted to free myself from her influence. I talked him into it,” Gypsy said at the trial.

In prison, Gypsy Rose spoke about the abuse she experienced and wrote a memoir, due to be published next year.

While behind bars, she married 37-year-old Ryan Scott Anderson from Louisiana. Gypsy’s lawyer said that in prison the girl became healthier than ever and gained weight.

The story of Gypsy and her family formed the basis of the series The Act, which was released on Hulu in 2019.
