“The duty unit of the Shevchenkiv police department received a report from two passers-by that a man was abusing a dog in the Babyn Yar park. The patrol police team and the investigative team of the district police department immediately arrived at the scene.”the police said in a message on Facebook.

The law enforcement officers established that the man was walking through the park with a small dog of the Yorkshire terrier breed, kicked it, strangled it with a strap and forcibly dragged it along the asphalt.

The dog was taken to a veterinary clinic to determine the severity of the injuries.

During the examination, veterinarians found the dog to have fractured ribs, a fracture of the rear left limb, and numerous wounds.

The dog remained under observation at the veterinary clinic for further treatment.

Law enforcement officers have started a pre-trial investigation under Part 1 of Art. 299 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – cruelty to animals.
