In the Korabelny district of Kherson, the water level reaches one and a half, and in places – two meters. However, water still continues to arrive as a result of the Russian military blowing up the Kakhovka hydroelectric plant. For the third day in a row, law enforcement officers, rescuers and volunteers are evacuating residents who are trapped in water and want to leave the city. This is stated in the material of the “Ukrainian Witness” project. Serhiy from Khersonets lives on the first floor of a five-story residential building. The man said that he had not been home since the explosion of the Kakhovskaya HPP. “I found a boat for one person to swim home, see what’s there. Every hour the water comes and comes. Everything is wet…” – says the man. Locals are evacuated with bags, packages and cages with pets. People rescue not only their own animals, but also the homeless. Antonina, a resident of the city, took with her a dog that became attached to her during the evacuation. “My son-in-law Sashko is currently at the front. Are they (Russian military – ed.) not enough and missing something? Mostly old people and animals are left here,” says Antonina. Photo: Ukrainian witness Among the evacuees are also entrepreneurs. Victoria had a shop in Kherson. “Our shop used to be here,” the woman says. Currently, she is helping to evacuate local neighbors – an elderly man and woman who live on the second floor of the house and refuse to leave because of six domestic cats. Photo: Ukrainian witness Entrepreneur Andriy – the owner of the flooded store modestly adds that “everything suffered, everyone suffered.” Volunteer Pavlo Khomenko came from Bila Tserkva, Kyiv region. The man left for Kherson the night before immediately after work. “Despite the fact that we are public activists, we all still work at jobs. We earn money because we have to contribute,” says the volunteer. According to him, in places the water level reaches the second floor of high-rise buildings. “The water is 4 meters, up to 5 meters. I am a master of sports in tourism, I have crossed many rivers,” the man adds. Photo: Ukrainian witness The evacuation takes place in conditions of constant danger, because the Russians, who are on the left bank of the Dnieper, reach the city with mortars and artillery. “The number of shelling has decreased. The entire coastal zone near the Dnipro River is flooded, residential buildings are flooded, sections of the residential street network are flooded,” says Vadym Yaremchuk, commander of the control battalion of the patrol police of the Kherson region. It will be recalled that a family was rescued from the roof of a flooded house, to which the military delivered water using a drone.
