12-year-old Mykhailik Baev from Bakhmut is being treated in Lviv, who received dozens of shrapnel wounds to his face and neck as a result of Russian rocket fire. During the shelling, the boy lost his father, who raised him and his brother on his own, and lost his home for the second time, the First Medical Association of Lviv says. About three months ago, when the boy and his father consulted on the farm on the street, a Russian rocket flew into the yard. At that moment, Mykhailo started running into the house to hide. Mykhailo was taken to the hospital in critical condition. The doctors diagnosed him with a mine-explosive injury, fragments were stuck in the boy’s head and neck. One of them prevented the blood supply to the brain and caused a heart attack. The other is stuck next to the carotid artery. First, the boy was taken to Dnipro, where surgeons managed to restore blood supply to the brain and stabilize the child’s condition. Next – Lviv. Mykhailo underwent a series of operations in Lviv. Due to a brain infarction, the boy could not walk, speak or swallow. Due to Russian shelling, the boy and his brother Kirill lost their father, who raised them independently. The boy has been undergoing rehabilitation for the past three months and has already learned to walk and talk again. The medical association of Lviv emphasizes that this is not the first injury of the child. Mykhailo has a brother. In 2014, the family moved from Horlivka to Bakhmut. “During the shelling in Horlivka, children hurriedly ran to shelter and accidentally touched a pot with boiling water. Both brothers suffered burns from which they are still suffering and are being treated,” the medical association notes. Mykhailik currently needs treatment for the scars that formed on his body after the accident in Horlivka, however, no hospital in Ukraine is able to fully help such patients as Misha due to a lack of equipment, the First Medical Association adds. Now the boy is learning to speak, walk and move different parts of his body anew.
