Seven-month-old Yurczyk swallowed a part of a Lego constructor a few days before the New Year. On January 16, the doctors of Lviv “Okhmatdyt” saved the baby, the clinic reported. A toy steering wheel from a construction car got stuck in the esophagus. Yurchyk is the fourth child in a large family. By the New Year, the older children decided to assemble a Lego constructor. They probably did not notice how the younger brother accidentally swallowed one of the parts. He was diagnosed with inflammation of the right lung, but we do not know whether it was the particle that caused the inflammation or it all happened during the inflammation,” says mother Yulia. A few weeks after the new year, the boy’s parents went to the hospital with suspicion of pneumonia. Yurchik underwent a computer tomography, which showed an expansion of the esophagus and a narrowing in one place. As well as residual inflammatory changes after pneumonia of the upper lobe of the right lung. Unfortunately, they could not see a foreign object in the esophagus, but the child’s vomiting did not stop. Specialists decided to additionally examine the esophagus. During fibrogastroscopy, a certain foreign object was seen, and a scar began to form around it. This indicates that the designer part was in the esophagus for at least 3 weeks. Surgeons quickly removed the foreign object. “We have four children and we keep a close eye on each of them, but this is the first time this has happened to us. I couldn’t even imagine how such a small child could swallow such a large part. Thanks to the doctors, everything passed,” added the mother.
