Teams of transplant specialists will be able to drive with special signals

The government allowed the transplant teams to use special blue sound and light devices. They can drive with special signals if they have to deliver organs and tissues for transplantation.

The relevant resolution was adopted at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, said the head of the Committee on National Health, Medical Aid and Medical Insurance, Mykhailo Radutskyi.

This is an important decision for medical professionals. For example, a donor heart can “live” for about 5 hours, a liver – a little longer.

In conditions where it is impossible to use air transportation, organs have to be delivered to other regions by road transport“, he said.

Radutskyi added that the earlier the organ for transplantation is delivered, the more chances there are for a high-quality transplant.

Previously, sound and signal support could only be provided by “ambulance” teams, now it will be available to transplant teams in 32 medical institutions that perform such operations“, the head of the Committee explained.

He recalled that during the full-scale invasion in 2022, 384 transplants were performed. This is 20% more than in 2021.

The most frequently transplanted:

  • kidneys – 275 operations,
  • liver – 74 transplants;
  • heart – 35 operations.

We will remind you that many transplants are performed from a posthumous donor. For example, healthy organs of a 54-year-old man who suffered a stroke were transplanted in Lviv. They saved the lives of 5 people: they transplanted lungs, heart, liver and two kidneys.
