This year, Ukraine is celebrating Christmas for the second time during a full-scale invasion. The defenders, who cannot celebrate with their families, are trying to create a Christmas atmosphere just at the front.

“UP. Life” has prepared a selection of pictures from the front line.

On Christmas Eve, the troops of the 72nd OMBr named after the Black Zaporozhians laid an improvised festive table, which was shared with them by a clergyman.

“Especially in dark times we must find time for light” – wrote in the brigade.

Nikita Shandyba, the head of the press service of the 10th Mountain Assault Brigade “Edelweiss”, published a poignant series of pictures in which the soldier is sitting at the traditional Christmas table. However, the table is not in the house, but in the middle of the field near the front.

“We made it so that you remember!

There is no swamp, blood and shelling in the photo. These photos have a soul that everyone who looks at them will feel. Family warmth and the hugs of relatives are a dream for everyone who stands up for their loved ones.” – he emphasized.

Photographers Vlad and Kostyantyn Liberovi filmed preparations for Christmas of soldiers serving in the Avdiyiv region. On the eve of the holiday, they decorated not only the Christmas tree, but also the tank.

“Here, in the middle of the cold and mud, there are no holidays. They put up Christmas trees and Christmas hats, record Christmas videos not for themselves. No matter how hard it is for them here, they take care of us and play Santa Claus in the midst of utter desperation to give gifts hope and holiday to us” – noted the photographers.

Soldiers of the 14th separate mechanized brigade named after Prince Roman the Great took part in a religious service on Christmas Eve.

“We are far from our families on this festive evening… We so want family warmth and coziness… But we are where we should be! May our families have a peaceful Christmas Eve.” – emphasized in the press service of the brigade.

The press service of the 128th separate Transcarpathian Mountain Assault Brigade published a photo of a defender standing in a church destroyed by the Russians.

“Here, where we are, Christmas is not celebrated in the classical sense. Because houses are damaged and empty, churches are destroyed by enemy shelling, and instead of New Year’s and Christmas decorations, there can only be remnants of rockets and shells…

We will pray for the birth of Jesus in the trenches and dugouts. And we will really celebrate after the victory in the circle of relatives and friends, as it should be!”, – they wrote.
