On December 6, “Ukrzaliznytsia” launched a special service for military personnel, which allows you to purchase a train ticket by internal reservation, if “open” tickets are sold out.
You can book tickets at a special portal no less than for 6 hours before the departure of the train, and redeem at the ticket office – no less than for 1 hour.
Ukrzaliznytsia explained to “Ukrainian Pravda. Life” what this option changes, how internal booking works for the military and whether there will be enough for all “closed” tickets.
What is an internal reservation?
For some categories of passengers (in particular, military) there is an internal reservation of tickets that are not on public sale. That is, they cannot be seen on the website or in the UZ application.

“This is a separate internal reservation – that is, a part of tickets in a certain proportion at the request of the Ministry of Defense for certain trains, which we do not name specifically for security reasons.
This booking has a certain number of first-class tickets, compartment tickets, as well as some second-class intercity seats.
They are closed under separate armor. When a serviceman leaves an application on this resource, our cashiers remove this ticket from under the armor, and he can redeem it at the cash desk”– says Anastasia Zolotaryova, spokeswoman for the passenger department of “Ukrzaliznytsia”.
Separate booking of tickets will be available for such flights, which will not be on public sale until a certain moment.
However, under certain conditions, these “closed” tickets will be available to other buyers, including civilians. Anastasia explains that such tickets will be freely sold in two stages.
“Such tickets can be available only if these seats were not selected by military personnel. If these seats are not reserved, then we put them on free sale, and anyone can buy them.
Since this is a new process for us, we are testing something here. We will have two waves of releasing these tickets for free sale if they have not been reserved. The first is for 24 hoursand the second – per hour until the train departs”the spokeswoman explains.
One hour before departure, all unreserved tickets will go on sale, as well as those that were reserved, but were not redeemed at the cash desk.
“We clearly communicate that a person can buy such a ticket no later than one hour before the departure of the train. If later, his ticket will simply go on sale automatically. This is an automatic setting, we cannot influence it.
In any case, a person will physically come to the station, because he will go by train. Usually people just arrive at the station about an hour before the departure of the train”the spokeswoman adds.
What has changed?
Separate booking of tickets for military personnel existed before. But it was possible to buy such tickets only through the military commandant.
“That is, the serviceman had to find out in advance where that military commandant is, come to him, take a ticket from him, then go to the station with that ticket, buy this ticket in advance, because these tickets went on sale 6 hours before the train departure.
That is, the serviceman had to come to the station at least twice and once more to the military commandant, because otherwise he would not have bought this ticket. We have reduced the number of additional movements as much as possible. It is enough to make a reservation and arrive at the station once before the departure of the train you need”– explains Anastasia.
You can buy this ticket at the ticket office only by presenting a military ticket or an officer’s ID card
If a civilian wants to cheat and book a “closed” ticket, they will not give him a ticket at the ticket office without a military document.
If too many military personnel want to buy these tickets and there are not enough “internally” reserved seats for them, they will be refused.
“But we also hedged against this. We have our internal service armor. Their number is very small, but they are still there. And we can redistribute them for the benefit of servicemen.
We have changed our internal processes and can do so. For example, if we understand that a serviceman has to go and there is no place for him, we can take, for example, a place from a separate reservation for people with disabilities, if it is free.
But, of course, it may happen that there will not be enough tickets for everyone, because in any case the capacity of the train is physically limited.” – says Anastasia.
In her opinion, the new option will especially help the military, who learn about the necessary trip day by day.
“For example, at 8 a.m. at a meeting, a person realizes that he has to go on a business trip. The train leaves today at 2:30 p.m. He won’t have time to buy this ticket through the military commandant. But through our portal, he will have time.”– adds the spokeswoman of the UZ passenger department.
