What are the most popular languages on Duolingo?
The most popular language of the application from year to year is English. It is studied in 122 countries: Afghanistan, Maldives and Malta were added to last year’s list in 2023.
In 2023, the Korean language took 6th place in the global language ranking, overtaking Italian. It belongs to ten languages that are studied in the largest countries of the world, in particular in India.
Also this year, Portuguese displaced Russian from the 10th place in the rating. The application is convinced that it indicates a decrease in interest in the Russian language due to Russia’s war against Ukraine, as well as an increase in global interest in Brazil and Portugal.
Last year, the countries with the highest percentage of students learning 3 or more languages were Finland and Great Britain. This year, students from Germany beat their fellow Britons and took second place.
We will remind you that the number of people willing to learn Ukrainian in the language learning application has increased by 577%.
