The Ministry of Culture and Information Policy published updated statistics of damage to cultural infrastructure objects as a result of Russian aggression by on February 25, 2024. So for two years of full-scale war, the actions of the Russians caused damage 1946 objects cultural infrastructure.

317 of them (i.e. 16%) were completely destroyed, says the press service of the ICIP.

The largest group of objects damaged or destroyed by the Russians are local cultural centers – they make up 48% of the total number of such institutions.

What infrastructure objects were affected:

  • club facilities – 933;
  • libraries – 695;
  • institutions of art education – 151;
  • museums and galleries – 113;
  • theaters, cinemas and philharmonics – 38;
  • parks, zoos, reserves – 13;
  • circuses – 3.

The cultural infrastructure suffered the greatest losses in Donetsk, Kharkiv, Kherson, Kyiv and cities of Kyiv, Mykolaiv, and Luhansk and Zaporozhye regions.

The ICIP added that since almost the entire territory of Luhansk and significant parts of the territories of Zaporizhzhya, Donetsk and Kherson regions are under temporary occupation, this makes an accurate calculation of damaged objects impossible.

In October of last year, the Ministry of Culture reported that due to Russian aggression in Ukraine, people suffered 1702 objects cultural infrastructure.

In mid-February of this year, UNESCO reported that, according to its calculations, for almost two full years of full-scale war, Russia caused damage to Ukrainian culture in the total amount 3.5 billion dollars. It will take about 10 years to rebuild all the damaged cultural and historical sites after a full-scale invasion and 9 billion dollars.
