More than 90% of teachers, parents and students consider Ukrainian as their native language.

The relevant study was carried out by the State Service for the Quality of Education of Ukraine, Ruslan Gurak, the head of the State Educational Quality Service of Ukraine, said.

In general, more than 30,000 students, parents and students were interviewed through an online questionnaire within the scope of the study.

More than 90% of respondents noted that they consider Ukrainian their native language and use it in all spheres of life.

At the same time, 43% of parents are dissatisfied with the level of knowledge of the Ukrainian language in their children.

At the same time, 11% more teachers began to use exclusively Ukrainian-language materials during classes. This year, not a single teacher used Russian-language materials (4% of teachers used them last year).

Compared to the previous academic year, the number of schoolchildren who better perceive Ukrainian-language content increased by 16%. 17% more schoolchildren started using Ukrainian content.

9% more schoolchildren started communicating online exclusively in Ukrainian. 10% fewer schoolchildren consume Russian-language content.

In addition, the use of the Ukrainian language on the Internet by parents and teachers increased by 19%.

As Taras Kremin, the commissioner for the protection of the state language, emphasized, in general, the dynamics of people switching to Ukrainian is obvious.

Kremin added that in 2023, he received 3,407 complaints about language violations, of which 307 were in the field of education.

“As of today, we have almost 3,500 complaints. Unfortunately, some of them concern the field of education,” Kremin said. According to him, systematic violations of the language law in educational institutions are not isolated.

Unfortunately, we have problems with a number of universities. Now, for some reason, only Dnipro University is mentioned, but we have enough such universities in the capital, in Odesa, in Kharkiv, and in other parts of Ukraine.

Because, in addition to using a non-state language, some representatives of the teaching staff continue to use materials, additional information, literature in a non-state language“, added the commissioner for the protection of the state language.
