Between 15% and 35% of Ukrainians believe in astrology, psychic abilities and tarology.
About this testify the results of the study of the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS), which was conducted from February 17 to March 5, 2024.
“35% of Ukrainians believe in astrology, 25% in psychic abilities, and 15% in tarology. 43% of Ukrainians believe in at least one of this list“, sociologists note.
Ukrainians were asked about:
- astrology – the influence of heavenly bodies on the earthly world and man (on his temperament, character, actions and fate);
- psychic abilities – clairvoyance, the ability to move objects with the power of thought, etc.;
- tarology – reading the future by cards.
For each of the questions, the respondent had to answer “rather believe” or “rather not believe.”
Belief in astrology and the influence of the planets is widespread among all categories of the population.
Women believe in astrology more (49% of all respondents) than men (only 36%).
Older people (51%) and Ukrainians with very low wealth (65%) also believe in astrology more often.
The situation is similar with tarot and psychics – people over 40 years of age who live in villages or small towns believe in them more often.
“Crisis and psychologically difficult periods (both at the social and personal levels) are a “favorable” environment for the growth of interest in such things as astrology, psychic abilities, and tarology.
The explosive development of digital technologies and their strong penetration into the everyday life of people significantly “simplifies” the contact of Ukrainians with astrologers, fortune-tellers, etc.“, – explains sociologist and executive director of KMIS Anton Grushetskyi.
2,008 Ukrainians from all regions of Ukraine, except temporarily occupied territories, took part in the telephone survey. The statistical error of such a sample did not exceed 2.4% for indicators, but in the conditions of war, a certain systematic deviation is added.
We will remind, in April 2023, 29% of Ukrainians under the age of 35 noted deterioration of mental health.
