Almost 1,300 Ukrainians were sentenced for evading military service. They were sentenced to conditional and real terms, some even provided for five years of imprisonment.
As noted in the digital service of analysis of state data “Opendatabot”, in total, during the ten years of the war, judges issued almost 3.8 thousand such sentences.
For the first time, the number of punishments for evading military service increased in 2015: almost 1,600 court decisions were passed then. This is the largest indicator during the entire war.
Court cases on evasion of mobilization
But gradually it decreased. In particular, only eight completed criminal proceedings were recorded in 2021.
However, with the start of a full-scale invasion, their number increased 20-fold. In 2022, the law enforcement officers brought about 220 criminal cases of evasion of military service to court.
Over the past year, the number of such cases in Ukraine increased fivefold – to 1,274. In particular, in 60 cases, the accused received real terms of imprisonment.
In January 2024 alone, the court handed down 120 sentences to petitioners.
