How not to become a victim of scammers when buying train tickets – told in “UZ”

The peak season of summer transportation continues in Ukraine. In this regard, the number of fraudulent schemes related to the purchase of train tickets is increasing. The company “Ukrzaliznytsia” explained how fraudsters work and gave advice on how not to become their victim. Fraudsters who aim to embezzle other people’s funds are constantly inventing new schemes. One of them is when a “repeder” buys a train ticket as soon as it goes on sale. Unfortunately, such cases are not uncommon,” UZ noted. Criminals promise passengers that they will have no problems. Of course, this is not so. When passengers try to contact the “traffickers” in order to clarify the situation, the scammers simply turn off the phone. “Ukrzaliznytsia” Another scheme, again, consists in the fact that the “dealer” buys the ticket in advance. He issues it in his own name or in any other name. When he receives the order, he changes the last name on the ticket to the buyer’s real name in the graphic editor. Passengers who receive such tickets in electronic form can hardly distinguish them from real ones. “Ukrzaliznytsia” “Such cases are a test of the attentiveness and professionalism of our conductors: scanning a ticket or comparing it with the list of passengers instantly shows our train crews the real name on the ticket, and comparing it with the passenger’s documents forces them not to allow him to board,” the company emphasizes. They also add that similar cases happen very often. “Ukrzaliznytsia” Sometimes “resellers” try to attack the electronic system of “Ukrzaliznytsia” with bots at 8 a.m. on the first day of sales. Thus, with the help of scripts (a program that automates some tasks – ed.), tickets are bought faster than other users. “We constantly block such accounts, but fraudsters do not stand still, they invent new algorithms. If the “dealers” already have a customer, they immediately issue a ticket in his name. If not, then upon receiving the order, they hand in the ticket taken earlier in an arbitrary name, and immediately redeem it in the desired name,” UZ adds. “UZ” urges passengers not to support fraudsters with their orders. Because by ordering a ticket from “resellers”, passengers themselves create a stir and stimulate the setting up of bots, due to which other passengers have difficulty buying. The next scheme of swindlers is that “resellers” monitor the return of tickets by other passengers and try to purchase them immediately. “Ukrzaliznytsia” “We remind you: the return of Warsaw tickets for free sale is carried out two days before departure from 8:00 a.m. These tickets are available to everyone and there is absolutely no need to overpay for “horrendous-entrepreneurs”, emphasizes the UZ.
