“New Testament” saved the life of Stepan, a 35-year-old Teroborona fighter from Prykarpattia. The book, given by the priest while still at school, protected the man from death during the explosion that occurred 10 meters away from him. Oksana Korchynska, a public figure and volunteer at the stabilization point for the wounded, told the story of the fighter to “Ukrainian Pravda. Life”. The fighter was in the Zaporizhzhia region. The soldier, who was without a body armor, received only lacerations, and the internal organs of the abdominal cavity were not affected. According to Oksana Korchynska, Stepan is a Greek Catholic by religion. The man carried the “New Testament” with him for 17 years, which saved his life. When Stepan studied in the 10th grade, a priest came to school and presented this book. The fighter is currently in a hospital in Kyiv, feeling well. According to Oksana Korchynska, the Museum of National History was interested in his story. They want to take the “New Testament” cut in half to the museum, the fighter does not object to this. The volunteer told a few more stories about wounded soldiers. Once, a soldier was brought to the stabilization point, who received, at first glance, a light wound. He said that “something hit him in the cheek and knocked out two teeth.” “The military constantly asked to let him go back to the unit, said that there was nothing wrong with him, and did not want to wait in line for a mobile X-ray,” says Oksana Korchynska. The fighter was not released, but an X-ray showed that a bullet was sticking out of his jaw. The volunteer also told about another soldier who was wounded in the stomach by a small shrapnel. However, he sewed up many of his internal organs, and doctors fought for a long time for the soldier’s life. However, the worst thing is when injured children are brought to the stabilization point. “I remembered my brother and sister who lost their parents. Many civilians passed through us, including those with severe head injuries,” the volunteer says.
