How to act during an earthquake: advice from the State Emergency Service

A wave of powerful earthquakes “swept” around the world on February 6 and claimed several thousand lives. The Main Center for Special Control said that Ukraine also belongs to the same belt of seismological activity as Turkey and Syria, where the natural disaster happened. The State Emergency Service reminded how to act in case of an earthquake. If you are on the 1st or 2nd floor, you should quickly leave the house and move away from it to an open place. If there is no phone nearby, call for help so that people who are on the street hear that there are people in the room,” the State Emergency Service explains. The service reminds that the first enemy is panic. So, when evacuating the house, you don’t have to rush to the stairs or the elevator. You cannot create a large crowd. You have to leave the house quickly, but carefully. Beware of debris, electrical wires, and other sources of danger and stay away from tall structures, overpasses, bridges, and power lines. During an earthquake, you should not use a car: move around on foot. If you are in the car at the time of the tremors, you must: stop, open the door; stay in the car until the vibrations stop; check if there are any victims nearby, notify rescuers and medics; if necessary, provide first aid.
