How to act if information or services are not provided in the official language: instructions



Ukrainians continue to face violations of the law on the state language in the sphere of service, transport, communication with employers and educators. The Office of the Language Ombudsman recalled the algorithm of actions in the case when information and services are provided in Russian. Instructions in case of violation of the language law: 🔶Try to resolve the situation yourself. Ask the violator to comply with the Law of Ukraine on the State Language. Photo: SomeMeans/Depositphotos 🔷In case of refusal, contact the management of the violator/institution or the “hotline” of the institution and inform about ignoring the requirements of the law. 🔶If you receive a refusal at this level as well, you should record the refusal and save evidence of the violation: video or audio recording of the conversation; place of violation; data of the violator or business entity: full name, time of violation, contacts. 🔷 Submit a complaint to the Commissioner by filling out the appropriate form on the Commissioner’s website or send a letter to the e-mail address [email protected]. 🔶The complaint must include: applicant’s full name and place of residence; the essence of the complaint; details of the offender; evidence of violation; date. The ombudsman’s office reminded that a complaint can be filed within 6 months from the day the violation was discovered.
