It is very important for road users not to interfere with the work of emergency services, in particular “ambulance”, because people’s lives depend on it. The Ministry of Health of Ukraine and the Patrol Police told how to behave to drivers and pedestrians if an “ambulance” happened to be near them on the roadway. Recommendations for drivers If an ambulance is approaching you with its light and sound or light signal on, give way to it and ensure unobstructed passage. To do this, vacate the lane in which the “fast” is moving, or stay as close as possible to the edge of the carriageway. If you are approaching an expressway with activated light and/or sound signal that is on the road or on the side of the road, reduce your speed to 40 km/h. If you are in a traffic jam, and there is a dividing lane on the road (traffic barrier or green zone), then those driving in the far left lane should place their cars as far left as possible, and those in the far right lane should park their cars as far right as possible. When there is no dividing lane, the car should be placed as far to the right as possible – this way a lane will be formed, the width of which is sufficient for the passage of “fast”. It is worth knowing that failure to give way to an “ambulance” vehicle moving with special light or sound beacons on is punishable by a fine of 680 hryvnias. “But, most importantly, it is important to remember that the price of your non-compliance with the rules may be someone’s life,” says the Ministry of Health. Recommendations for pedestrians If you want to cross the road and you see an expressway with its lights and/or horn on, you should refrain from crossing the roadway or leave it immediately. Ambulances have priority. The rights of the driver of an “ambulance” car An “ambulance” driver can deviate from the traffic rules regulating the passage of intersections and pedestrian zones, overtaking, speed of movement, etc. Violation of the rules is allowed only if the flashing beacon and a special sound signal are turned on. However, the beep can be turned off. At the same time, the driver of the “fast” must follow the signals of the regulator.
