How to give consent for posthumous donation in Ukraine
[ad_1]
In 2023, Ukrainian doctors have already performed more than 400 organ transplants.
64% of transplants were carried out from a posthumous donor, and 34% – from a living one, reports the non-governmental organization “Patients of Ukraine”.
The practice of posthumous donation is widespread in many European countries and saves thousands of lives every day. Organ transplantation in Ukraine began to actively develop only 2 years ago.
“One of the main problems is that when a patient’s brain dies, relatives rarely give consent for a transplant. However, each posthumous donor can save up to 8 patients.”the organization says.
