The Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, Oksen Lisovyi, said that at the beginning of October, teachers will receive methodological materials with recommendations on how to tell children of different ages about the war. He announced this in the telethon “Edyny Novyny” on September 20. The head of the Ministry of Education and Culture explained that there are currently three important tasks related to the teaching of modern history. The first is methodical materials for teachers with explanations of how to talk about the war, which historical events should be covered, etc. Photo: Oksen Lisovoy’s social networks. The second task is to update the history textbook, to which information about the current war needs to be added. A new chapter will be added to the old textbooks, the Minister of Education noted. According to Lisovoy, it is expected that this will be implemented within a year. The third concerns the revision of the approach to teaching history in schools. “In our opinion, teaching should follow other principles: narrative teaching, meaningful perception, encourage the understanding of historical events,” says Lisovyi.
