During the “Studvesna” festival, the rector of the National Aviation University, Maksym Lutskyi, threatened students because of jokes about former education minister Serhiy Shkarlet. Kyiv City Council deputy Ksenia Semenova reported on this case. First, the students showed a humorous miniature about the anti-Skarlet rally. “Yesterday he was Leo Tolstoy, but today he is an ordinary person,” remarked one of the students on stage before the start of the humorous improvisation. In the video, you can see how one of the “protesters” speaks against “gay parades” and then demands another to show the poster. On it is written “Vernité Scarlett”. Jokingly, the boys point out a mistake, turn the poster over, and there is a portrait of Yanukovych. After the speeches, NAU rector Maksym Lutskyi said from the stage that he would not allow any politics in the university. “As a well-educated person, if I see the minister’s name being thrown on the floor one more time, I will not vouch for myself,” said the rector of NAU. Lutskyi also claims that Skarlet allegedly “did a lot, in particular, for NAU in 3 years.” “A basket of awards, our international support and so on. That’s why you can’t be disrespectful. History will judge. But there will be no politics here,” he says. The rector’s speech was accompanied by student indignation. Considering Lutskyi’s reaction, Ksenia Semenova assumed that in the future students will be required to approve jokes before performing. It will be recalled that Lutskyi planned to become rector of NAU in 2015, but then former Minister of Education and Science Serhii Kvit fired both Lutskyi and his team. The chance to return to NAU appeared only in 2020, when Serhiy Shkarlet became the minister. Maksym Lutskyi is known for his “friendship” with the family of fugitive ex-president Viktor Yanukovych and nepotism with ex-Minister of Education Dmytro Tabachnyk. Earlier we wrote that the dismissal of the NAU rector is one of the steps expected from the new Minister of Education and Science, Oksen Lisovoy. It is worth noting that the rector of NAU is also suspected of organizing corruption schemes, in particular with lands adjacent to the university, the illegal dismissal of a professor and the expulsion of the head of the student council due to participation in a rally against Scarlett. Protests took place in 2020 in the capital. Students expressed their dissatisfaction with the appointment of Skarlet to the position.
