There was a language scandal at the State Tax University in Irpen: the teacher refused to teach couples in Ukrainian philosophy despite the students’ request. The administration reacted to the incident, started an official investigation and temporarily suspended the teacher from work. Life”. “Yesterday, I learned from social networks about this unfortunate incident that happened at the State Tax University of the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine. And I decided to initiate state control measures,” said the Commissioner. Taras Kremin thanked the students and acting rector Dmytro Serebryanskyi for his reaction to the incident. “I want to thank the students of this university for the fact that they not only reacted, but were also quite tolerant. They asked the professor of the department not to violate their rights to receive information and services in the state language. It is very good that the rector of the university also reacted. At the same time, according to the Commissioner, compliance with language legislation is one of the most sensitive topics. In the first quarter of 2023, he received 114 appeals from citizens regarding violations of the law in preschool, general secondary and higher education institutions. “The issue of language culture, language stability is one of the markers of identity, which became more acute in the conditions of a full-scale invasion. In the conditions of the rapid transition of citizens to communication in the Ukrainian language, any signs of violation of their rights, regardless of whether it is the sphere of service, the activity of local self-government bodies , education, is perceived very acutely. That’s why I believe that every rector should take additional response measures, prove to the teams the need to comply with the law,” Kremin emphasizes. The Ombudsman said that he had a meeting with the Minister of Education and Science Oksen Lisov. “We have agreed on joint measures to strengthen control over compliance with the language law in educational institutions… I will believe that such unfortunate facts of violations of the educational law will become a demonstrative example of how to respond to violations and what measures should be taken to prevent them from happening in the future,” the ombudsman said. . He also added that he met with students and the rectorate of Kharkiv Karazin National University in Kharkiv. The ombudsman considers the introduction of the position of university language ombudsman from among the scientific and pedagogical workers of the university to be one of the most important initiatives of this university.
