At the State Tax University in Irpen, the teacher refused to conduct a lecture in Ukrainian. The incident took place during a philosophy class – on April 4, the students published a video of the couple on social networks. Teacher Lyubov Vorobyova gave a lecture in Russian for first-year students of the Faculty of Journalism. One of the students asked her to switch to Ukrainian, but she refused. Instead, the professor offered the students to study philosophy on their own and said that they would speak Russian on the exam. “I give you permission not to come to the lecture. Everything is presented in Ukrainian both in the “mudla” and in the textbooks – please, you can master it there. And when we meet you at the exam, I will definitely speak with you in Russian.” , – answered the woman. After the discussion, the teacher asked the students to go to the Moodle platform and independently read the topic “Philosophy of society”, and at the end of the pair – to write tests. “I communicate with all students in the Ukrainian language, but due to the fact that I taught philosophy in Russian for 35 years, it is out of my consciousness. I don’t even notice that I switched to the Russian language. Now there are many opportunities to master philosophy in the language of it’s convenient for you. If it hurts your ears a lot, I have permission not to attend,” Lyubov also said. After publicity in social networks, the Student Parliament of DPU reported that the Administration of the higher education institution “is taking appropriate measures.” “The teacher has been suspended from the possibility of performing official duties and, based on the results of the official investigation, appropriate measures will be taken,” the SP wrote on Instagram. The incident was also commented on by Acting the rector of DPU Dmytro Serebryanskyi. “Students made public the fact of teaching in Russian, the language of the aggressor, among the 1st-year students of the Faculty of Journalism. The collective appeal was officially registered with us, I have already accepted it. The video confirmation and the very shameful discussion of the professor with the students spread across all mass media and this is a very unfortunate fact. But on March 29 of this year, I met with students. And the students asked me direct questions about the language of teaching and teaching by individual teachers. I told the students officially: to teach all disciplines within the walls of the university and communicate exclusively in Ukrainian,” Serebryanskyi said. He added that after the official investigation the measures will be “cardinal and radical” and called on Ukrainians to change their attitude towards the aggressor’s language and not to communicate with it even in everyday life. “The university, which suffered destruction, but survived during the occupation and is being rebuilt, will not allow the use of the language of the aggressor in the educational process. This is a civil position, this is the position of the state! The reaction of the administration of the educational institution to the situation is clear: we will act decisively, the consequences for the guilty will be within the limits of the law irreversible”, – added on the page of the DPU. Lyubov Vorobyova is a Doctor of Philosophical Sciences and a professor of the Department of Social Philosophy and Management, who teaches the courses “Philosophy” and “Philosophy of Law” at DPU. “UP. Life” turned to the teacher for a comment, but has not yet received an answer. We are also waiting for a comment from the Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language. It will be recalled that earlier the language ombudsman said that since the beginning of the year he had received 880 complaints about violations of the language law in Ukraine.
