A 19-year-old boy was arrested in the Chernivtsi region, who organized a fraudulent scheme: he offered people remote work, but for employment they had to pay him a deposit for materials.

In this way, the native of Bukovyna defrauded at least eight residents of Chernivtsi and neighboring regions, according to the Main Department of the National Police in Chernivtsi region.

As the law enforcement officers found out, the boy posted an ad for remote work on one of the Internet platforms, indicating that he would need to pack pencils.

“The main responsibilities are checking each pencil for integrity and quality, as well as packing pencils of 12 colors in a package”said the job advertisement.

When potential employees responded to the vacancy, the guy asked to drop 500 hryvnias as a deposit for delivering goods to their homes for work, the police say.

The guy also received bank account details of potential workers, and then appropriated money from them.

“He sent a link to fill out a questionnaire. After clicking on it, the victims got to a fake resource, the interface of which was similar to the official web resource of the state bank, and entered their card data.

In this way, the guy gained access to citizens’ accounts and appropriated their savings. He sent the received funds on accounts of third partiesthe law enforcement officers report.

According to the police, one of the victims was a 44-year-old resident of Khmelnytskyi – her boyfriend robbed her of more than 40,000 hryvnias.

The boy was informed of suspicion under the article on fraud (Parts 1, 2 and 3 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code).

The sanction of the article provides up to three years of imprisonment.
