The Ukrainian military sang four famous Christmas carols. The cover versions have changed words that remind us of the war and the importance of the world’s support for Ukraine.

The defenders performed the songs Happy Xmas (War is over), Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow! and I’ll Be Home for Christmas, according to UNITED24.

In order to emphasize Ukrainian realities, several words were replaced in each song. For example, in John Lennon’s composition, instead of “war is over” (“the war is over”) sounds “war is not over” (“the war is not over”).

In the song I’ll Be Home for Christmas, which was written on behalf of a World War II soldier, Frank Sinatra sang, “I’ll be home this Christmas.” The Ukrainian fighters changed the text, adding the objection – “I won’t be home this Christmas”.

“From the lips of the Ukrainian military, these lines sounded so poignant, so sincere. Ukraine needs support. And today, and on Christmas, and on New Year’s. We believe that the world will feel it again and will be there for us.”– says the coordinator of the UNITED24 platform Yaroslava Gres.

The video was filmed in a dugout in the direction of Bakhmut, against the background of civilian objects destroyed by the Russian occupiers, including a cultural center and a railway station in Lyman, schools and a gas station in Kostyantynivka, which is 15 kilometers from the front line, UNITED24 reports.

Cover versions of songs are performed on bandura, flute, guitar, percussion and synthesizer.

In particular, Oleksandr Remeza, a soldier of the 110th OBrTRO, wounded in the battles near Lysychansk, and Inna Korolenko, a combat medic of the fire support platoon of the 206th TRO battalion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, were responsible for the guitar and vocals.

Bandura and vocals are performed by defender of Kyiv, serviceman of the 59th OMPBr Dmytro Romanchuk. The part on the pipe was played by paramedic of the “Hospitaliers” battalion of the Ukrainian Volunteer Army, musician and frontman of the band “KoraLLi” Mykhailo Adamchak.

Artur Temchenko, a soldier of the 110th OBRTRO, actor and drummer, was responsible for the percussion, and Mykhailo Oliynyk, a soldier of the 59th OMPBr, composer and music producer, was responsible for the piano and vocals.

  • Iryna Kosovska – combat medic of the 3rd motorized infantry platoon of the 1st company of the 10th OGSHBr “Edelweiss”;
  • Viktoriya Chudakovska – a servicewoman of the 59th Military Brigade;
  • Svitlana Cherednychenko is a soloist of the Honored Academic Model Demonstration Orchestra of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

My military service has been going on for almost two years, and today is music this is a way of rehabilitation not only for me, but also for my brothers, with whom we are currently on the Bakhmut direction.

I would very much like this project to make the world understand that the war is not over and it is necessary to get involved as much as possible. The more supporters we have, the more help will come to us, and the faster we will move towards victory“, says Inna Korolenko.
