Ihor Yukhnovskyi, the first deputy prime minister of Ukraine in 1992-1993, theoretical physicist, politician and public figure, passed away in Lviv at the age of 99.

Sad news reported Mayor of Lviv Andriy Sadovy.

“Ihor Rafailovich Yukhnovsky has died. A bright, kind, wise man. The creator of Ukraine and the face of independence”– wrote Sadovy.

It is currently unknown when Yukhnovsky’s farewell and funeral will take place.

Ihor Yukhnovsky is a Ukrainian theoretical physicist, doctor of physical and mathematical sciences, professor and academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

The idea of ​​the referendum on December 1, 1991, which established Ukraine’s independence, belongs to him.

He was a people’s deputy of the I-IV convocations of the Verkhovna Rada and led the opposition as the Chairman of the People’s Rada.

In 1991, Ihor Yukhnovsky was a candidate for the presidency of Ukraine, but won 1.74% of the vote. In the period from October 1992 to 1993, he worked as the first deputy prime minister of Ukraine.

During the presidency of Viktor Yushchenko, Yukhnovsky managed the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance.

It is also known that in Lviv Yukhnovsky created the Lviv Scientific School of Statistical Physics, the Department of Statistical Theory of Condensed States of the Institute of Theoretical Physics of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR.

In 1990, the Institute of Physics of Condensed Systems of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine was created on its basis.

Ihor Yukhnovsky is the author of about 500 scientific articles, 7 monographs and textbooks.

We will remind that in December 2023 died co-author of the Act of Proclamation of Independence of Ukraine.
