A citizen of China was sentenced to prison for scaring to death more than a thousand chickens of a neighbor with whom he had an enmity. CNN reports on a curious court case. A man surnamed Gu got into an argument with his neighbor Zhong after the latter cut down trees without permission. Gu repeatedly sneaked into Zhong’s chicken farm at night. It’s unclear what the neighbor’s intentions were, but the flashlight he used caused the chickens to panic. The birds flocked in fear and most of them died due to the stampede. However, Gu did not stop there and returned to Zhong’s farm a second time, this time killing 640 chickens. The court ruled that Gu intentionally caused damage to Zhong. Chinese authorities said the 1,100 dead chickens were valued at 13,840 yuan (more than $2,000). The court ordered Gu to serve six months in prison with one year of probation. The sentence was handed down taking into account Gu’s remorse for the crime committed. Read also: How to establish mutual assistance between neighbors during war – tips
