In June 2023, the people of Kyiv took home the largest number of homeless animals since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. Last month, the Kyiv City Hospital of Veterinary Medicine, together with volunteers, placed 132 animals that were in the company’s facilities with families. In the first half of 2023, it was possible to house 281 animals, and the figure for June became a record, reports KMDA. Also, during the first half of the year, the capital enterprise sterilized 5,171 homeless animals and vaccinated 5,007 dogs and cats against rabies. Earlier, animal rights activists demanded the dismissal of Nataliya Mazur from this position. Under her leadership, hundreds of dogs died in the shelter in Borodyanka, which were left locked in enclosures during the occupation. It will be recalled that after the Russians blew up the Kakhovskaya HPP, Ukrainians rescued people and animals that were affected by the flooding. Unfortunately, many animals died, in particular in the “Zolota Dibrova” zoo. Zoo workers managed to save only a few animals.
