In Kyiv, a 30-year-old man was sentenced to 14 years in prison for killing an 83-year-old woman when she asked for help setting up SMS banking. The convict was familiar with the elderly woman and helped her with household chores.

As reported by the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office, the incident happened in November 2022, when a man came to a woman who lived alone to help her set up SMS banking.

After the victim provided her phone and pension bank card, the accused assaulted her, threw her on the bed and strangled her.”the prosecutor’s office reports.

After the crime, the man stole the phone, TV, and personal belongings of the elderly woman and fled. The next day he was detained.

Law enforcement officers seized an earring, a card of a resident of Kyiv, keys to the apartment and her mobile phone.

The police also established that the previously convicted man, who was born in the Kherson region, was unemployed and did not have a permanent place of residence in Kyiv.

He was familiar with the elderly woman, because he had helped her with household chores several times.

As punishment, the court sentenced the man to 14 years of imprisonment with confiscation of all his property.

In a comment to “UP. Life”, Iryna Vynokurova, an employee of the press service of the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office, said that the man had previously been convicted of property crimes.

The man denies the accusation of murdering an elderly woman, the spokeswoman said.

The older woman’s trust was broken under the guise of help. They often saw each other in a deli near her house, sometimes he helped her with packages, brought her to the apartment.

On one occasion, a woman asked to set up Internet banking. Probably, the accused thought that the elderly woman had a large amount of money there.” – said the representative of the prosecutor’s office.
