In Kyiv, the first set of letters was installed on the track wall at the renamed “Ukrainian Heroes’ Square” metro station.

There will be four in total, reported in the Kyiv City State Administration.

Previously, the name was executed in a font created for the Moscow metro.

The new inscription has 26 characters, each of which weighs about 3 kilograms. Installation work takes place at night, when trains are not moving and there is no voltage on the contact rail.

The name “Ukrainian Heroes’ Square” is the longest among all metro station names. A total of 104 symbols were produced for its renaming.

The author of the letters was the graphic designer Bohdan Gdal. Last year, he started designing fonts on his own initiative.

The station architects supported the designer’s idea and provided all the necessary approvals.

According to Gdal, with the help of the shape of the letters, he tried to convey the heroism of the station’s new name. The font has a historical style. Because of its complexity, each letter was made manually.

The KMDA also reported that a new name will soon be installed at the “Zvirinetska” station.

We will remind, in May 2023, the Kyiv City Council supported the decision to rename the stations “Lev Tolstoy Square” to “Ukrainian Heroes Square” and “Druzhba Narodiv” to “Zvirynetska”.
