In the Obolon district of Kyiv, oily spots with a characteristic smell were found on the surface of the Kyrylivske lake. According to law enforcement officers, this may indicate the discharge of petroleum products into the water.

It became known about the pollution of the reservoir from social networks, the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office reports.

They note that after specialists took water samples for further research, the leak was covered with a special sorbent.

The law enforcement officers started a pre-trial investigation on the fact of violation of the rules of water protection of water bodies (Part 1 of Article 242 of the Criminal Code).

As Khrystyna Pyatnytska, spokeswoman for the police of Obolon district of Kyiv, said in a comment to “UP. Life”, law enforcement officers learned about the pollution of the lake from social networks on February 21. Then they arrived at the specified place.

“An examination will be appointed to understand what the lake was polluted with and what damage it caused”– noted Iryna Vynokurova, an employee of the press service of the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.
