On the second anniversary of the full-scale invasion Kyiv Symphony Orchestra will play two concerts in Germany with the world premiere of the work “Ukrainian Triptych”.

The concerts will be held in the city of Gera (Kultur-und Kongresszentrum Gera) – February 23 and in Altenburg (Brüderkirche Altenburg) – February 24, reports the press service of the orchestra

Parts for soprano, cymbal, electric guitar and orchestra were collected in the “Ukrainian Triptych”. The author of the piece was a German composer Klaus-Steffen Mankopf.

He said that February 24 was a turning point in his life, because this day made him think about protecting the West, democracy and human values.

We, artists, musicians, Germans, have a special responsibility – we must express ourselves and talk about it. As a composer, I can only answer with my music. Therefore, it was a great honor and duty for me to write a work dedicated to the free people of Ukraine“, the composer commented.

The concert consists of three sections – “Holodomor”, “Jewish Cemetery in Warsaw” and “Kubrick’s Bomb”. They resonate with the experiences and fears of Ukrainians, but they are reproduced in the author’s understanding.

For example, “Kubrick’s Bomb” – a reproduction of the sound of an atomic bomb – is a crescendo, but without a final big explosion. This is an interpretation of the film Stanley Kubrick “Doctor Strangelove, or How I Stopped Fearing and Loved the Bomb”.

As the press service of the orchestra said, the performance will begin with the adagio for cello and harp “Kol Nidrei” Max Bruch performed by a Ukrainian soloist, a world-famous cellist Oleksiy Shadrina.

In the second part, with the participation of a Ukrainian violinist Valery Sokolova Concerto for violin and orchestra will be played Evgeny Stankovich. It will also sound “Metamorphoses” Richard Strausswritten in 1945 as a reflection on the tragic consequences of the Second World War, and Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Egmont” overture, created in 1810 for the production of Goethe’s drama of the same name.

Mykola Lysenko’s Prayer for Ukraine “God is great, one” will conclude the concerts. The conductor is Vitaly Protasov.

The patron of the concert in Altenburg is the prime minister of Thuringia, Bodo Ramelov. The event will be held with the friendly support of the State Chancellery of Thuringia, the Ukrainehilfe eV Center for Helping Ukrainians, and the city’s Evangelical Lutheran Parish.

On February 24, the second anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, support actions will take place in many countries around the world. Together with the World Congress of Ukrainians, Ukrainian Pravda created an interactive map of the world, on which the locations and times of actions are marked.
