On October 19, Ukraine will celebrate the Day of Human Responsibility, initiated by the Bohdan Havrylyshyn Family Foundation.
This holiday is a tribute to the outstanding Ukrainian, visionary, co-founder of the World Economic Forum in Davos, head of the International Institute of Management in Geneva, Bohdan Gavrylyshyn.
At the state level, the Day of Human Responsibility was approved in 2021.
What is the Declaration of Human Responsibility

Bohdan Gavrylyshyn is the author of the Declaration of Human Responsibility – a document with 15 points about responsibility at all its levels.
According to the initiator of the declaration, it is the individual responsibility of each member of society at all levels that can ensure the implementation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, approved by the UN General Assembly in 1948.
During Euromaidan, Ukrainians showed the whole world that they are ready to take responsibility for their future.
Bohdan Gavrylyshyn noted that this is a “painful transformation of the nation, values and behavior” and added that this is exactly what Ukraine should share with the world – its unique experience.
Thus, in 2014, the declaration of human responsibility was born, when the Russians invaded Ukraine.
How the Day of Responsibility was born
The date of the Day of Human Responsibility was set by the Verkhovna Rada to honor Havrylyshyn’s memory. Therefore, the holiday is celebrated on October 19 – the birthday of an outstanding Ukrainian.

Who was Bohdan Gavrylyshyn
Bohdan Gavrylyshyn died on October 24, 2106, at the age of 91. He was a member of the Club of Rome, the World Academy of Arts and Sciences, the International Academy of Management, an honorary doctor at 7 universities in Canada and Ukraine.
He was also an adviser to the first President of Ukraine, four Speakers of the Verkhovna Rada and three Prime Ministers; Head of the Advisory Council under the Presidium of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. He initiated the creation of some youth organizations in Ukraine, was an active member of the All-Ukrainian scout organization “Plast”.
In 2010, he founded his own charitable foundation. His mission was to train a critical mass of young Ukrainians who would learn first-hand how the best European countries function – in order to form a critical mass of people who will transform Ukraine.
