In Yoshkar-Ole, the concert of singer Diana Arbenina and her rock group “Night Snipers”, scheduled for October 18 and timed for the group’s 30th anniversary, was canceled. The singer herself announced this on social networks. The reasons for the cancellation of the concert are not specified. Arbenina herself suspects that this may be connected with her political position.
By the evening of October 12, about 300 tickets for the concert had already been sold.
In her address to the audience, Arbenina stated that the concert was canceled at the insistence of the authorities of Mary El. “I regard the cancellation of the concert as sabotage against a citizen of the Russian Federation who lives in his country, loves his country, his audience and is responsible for what he promises – and I promised to come,” the singer said.
On the morning of October 13, Minister of Culture Mary El Konstantin Ivanov warned that the “Night Snipers” concert in the capital of the republic might not take place. He made his statement after the address of the deputy of the Mariy El State Assembly, Gennady Zubkov, who pointed out that “Sniperov” tours have already been banned in other regions of Russia, Idel.Realii reports.
Zubkov recalled that “back in 2014, speaking before the Nazis and “Azovs” in Kyiv, Arbenina criticized the position of the Russian Federation regarding Donbass and warmly welcomed these Ukrainian Nazis, she did the same in 2016.” He also mentioned that after the attack of the radical Islamist group Hamas in the south of Israel, Arbenina recorded a song in support of the Israelis.
Ivanov said: “We will not allow the performances of those artists who speak negatively about our country and its politics.”
- In 2014, Diana Arbenina spoke out against the annexation of Crimea by Russia. In April 2022, at a concert in Chelyabinsk, she sang the anti-war song “Don’t be silent”.
- In the spring of 2023, the “Night Snipers” concerts were canceled in Ulan-Ude, Cheboksary, Ulyanovsk, Kazan, Tolyatti and Pyatigorsk. The reasons for canceling the performance were technical problems and “regional events” (the day before the concert).
