National Military Memorial Cemetery will build on the territory of the Gatna community in the Kyiv region. However, residents of the village of Markhalivka are protesting, saying that it will allegedly cause groundwater pollution and forest destruction, informs Public.

The villagers staged a protest on April 5.

At the same time, the Patronage Service of Azov sees the Russian trail and manipulations in the rallies, and the government claims that the fears are groundless.

Residents of the village of Markhalivka are against the construction of the National Military Memorial Cemetery because they seem to be protesting against deforestation, they are afraid of the disappearance and pollution of water in the area, and also against the neighborhood of the memorial complex.

We do not blame the rally participants, but we see clear manipulative and provocative statements obviously inspired by the FSB of Russia. Speculations and scandals specifically on the topic of military burials are the work of Russian agents”– the Patronage Service noted.

They also called on civilians to reconsider their position and support the process of building a memorial complex in honor of the military who gave their lives for Ukraine and the right to live peacefully in their own country.

Several dozen people came out for the rally in the village of Markhalivka. They said that in order to create the Memorial Cemetery, they are destroying the young forest and this will affect the ecosystem.

Government officials and representatives of local authorities came to the demonstrators to convince the residents burial safety.

The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Oleksandr Krasnolutsky denies the arguments against the construction of the military cemetery.

“The project for the construction of the National Military Cemetery was studied and analyzed by specialists. In particular, by the Institute of Ecology. The presented project will not destroy the emerald network.”the government official claims.

We will remind, at the National Military Memorial Cemetery have the right to be buried all servicemen who defended Ukraine since 2014.

In Ukraine, for a long time, they could not decide on the location of the National Military Memorial Cemetery.

At first it was planned to be built in the Lysa Gora tract in Kyiv, but activists and the government opposed.

The next offer was Bykivnia in the Kyiv region. The council even supported a bill that provided for the location of the cemetery there. This place was also supported by the relatives of the fallen heroes, but President Volodymyr Zelenskyi never signed this document.

In 2023, the Cabinet of Ministers allowed build memorial cemetery in the village of Gatne, but the relatives of the fallen Heroes were categorically against it.

At the beginning of December 2023, the parliament supported the bill on the construction and operation of the National Military Memorial Cemetery, which stipulates that the location of the cemetery should be determined by the Cabinet of Ministers.

In March 2024 agreed the location is near the Southern Cemetery in the Gatne community in the Kyiv region.
