In the Kyiv Zoo, a “housewarming party” was arranged for a family of monk parrots (this species is also called “Grey-bellied Kalita”).
The family of these parrots has grown to such a size that additional living conditions are needed.
So the zoo workers built them a whole residential complex called “Druzhniy”, they say on the Facebook page of the institution.
“Great news for parrot lovers! Introducing a new all-season home for the Monk Parakeet family (Kalita).
For the maximum comfort of birds, it is equipped with cascades of nests for further decoration to your own taste.” – say the caretakers.

A children’s playground, a sports complex, a food court and an entertainment area have also been set up for the birds on the “indoor territory”: various accessories, feeders, swings, ladders, ropes and rodents.

The complex is designed for year-round living, as it has a two-circuit lighting system and autonomous infrared heating.

“An interesting feature of monk parakeets is that, unlike other related parakeets, they build nests with their own hands, carefully interweaving thin twigs.
That’s why we prepared cut twigs for the residents of Druzhnye residential complex. – added Kyivzoo employees.
