In the Netherlands, a court ordered a man who became a donor to conceive at least 550 children to stop donating sperm. The relevant decision was made by the court in The Hague, Politico and CBS News reported. The organization, which represents the interests of the donor children of the husband and their parents, appealed to the court with the demand to stop the donation of the father of many children. They noted that a man exceeding the limit of 25 children or 12 families, and his subsequent donation, may harm the mental state of donor children and increase the risk of incest. As a result, their lawsuit was satisfied – the judge forbade the man to donate his sperm and advertise himself as a donor. The court’s decision states that the man “lied to force the parents to choose him as a donor”, because he understood that the potential parents would not have chosen him if they had known how many women had already become pregnant from him. In court, the man claimed that he was acting in the interests of future parents whom he wanted to help. The man is known to have donated sperm to a number of clinics in the Netherlands and abroad, as well as offering his sperm through online platforms. As of 2017, he was the father of at least 102 children. We previously reported that Ukraine will begin to regulate surrogate motherhood.
